The LA Rams selected Florida WR Van Jefferson at 57. What they’ll find is a very fast receiver in 2020

The LA Rams are not just throwing darts blindly at a dartboard when they make their selections in the NFL Draft. In fact, the team does a great deal of debate, research, and analysis to support every decision made throughout the NFL Draft. So it should not come to anyone’s surprise that the Rams loved Florida wide receiver Van Jefferson’s route running, which compelled them to select him at 57 in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Imagine the Rams surprise when the finally get Jefferson on the field to discover he’s awfully fast, as well. And that’s on TOP of being the proclaimed runner-up route runner of the 2020 NFL Draft, second only to Jerry Jeudy.

True test training and timing

Of course, these are all just pieces to the puzzle. The true hurdle for the team will be finding opportunities to synch up Jefferson with his quarterback Jared Goff. Until the team finds ways to put Goff and Jefferson on the field to train together, it’s all guesswork as to how well Goff and Jefferson will play together.

In the meantime, all that is available is hope and patience. The Rams are just as convinced today as the draft day that Van Jefferson was the right choice. Even while the Rams have a full stable of receivers, the Rams like to use a telescope in the draft.  Both Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds are slated to test the waters of free agency in 2021.  Even if the LA Rams can afford to re-sign one, the likelihood that both will return in 2021 seems remote. In the meantime, the Rams can take the route running ability of Cooper Kupp combing with the point to point speed of Josh Reynolds at the same time.
