NFL Power Rankings 2020 preseason: Where do LA Rams fall?
By Bret Stuter
Team 12 – Philadelphia Eagles (9-7)
While everyone cheered the Dallas Cowboys offseason, the Eagles quietly made the right moves and may actually have pulled away from NFC East competition. It’s certainly a shame that the team has already lost star right guard Brandon Brooks for the season before training camp has started, or the NFC East would have gone the Eagles way easily.
2019 summary
How long can the Eagles fall to the brink of oblivion, only to scratch and claw their way back into the playoffs after everyone has them all but dead? Apparently, that’s still an option as the Eagles fell to 5-7, and won out to land in the postseason. As 2019 moved along, the Eagles discovered that the roster had become too veteran heavy. So 2020 will be focused on getting the team younger.
Players lost
The teams lost senior leadership with the loss of S Malcolm Jenkins, versatile OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai, RB Jordan Howard, CB Ronald Darby, and WR Nelson Agholor. With the exception of Jenkins, most were used on a rotational basis.
Players added
The Eagles defense landed DT Jason Hargrave, CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, ILB Jatavis Brown, and S Will Parks. In the draft, the team landed WR Jalen Reagor, S K’Von Wallace, LB Davion Taylor, QB Jalen Hurts, and more.
2020 outlook
The Philadelphia Eagles stumped the sports world by drafting QB Jalen Hurts in round two. But other than that, their offseason was efficient and improved the overall roster in areas of need. The biggest curiosity is that Eagles defensive line, which now boasts Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Jason Hargrave, and Derek Barnett with Malik Jackson and Josh Sweat rotating in for relief. The Eagles are the team to beat in the NFC East.
