Team 25 – Chicago Bears (8-8)

While the Chicago Bears have some positive elements, facing off Nick Foles and Mitch Tribusky to compete for quarterbacking this team is not going to end well.

2019 summary

The Bears were a pretty good team considering the ongoing struggles at QB by Mitch Trubisky.  The defense was solid. All that is needed is good QB play, right? So the team added veteran quarterback Nick Foles while retaining sometimes struggling quarterback Mitch Trubisky. The drama the move will trigger by a split locker room over the QB battle will drag down the entire organization.

Players lost

The Bears lost 16 players to free agency, including OLB Leonard Floyd, ILB Nick Kwiatkoski, QB Chase Daniel, DT Nick Williams, OT Cornelius Lucas, S Haha Clinton Dix, OLB Kevin Pierre-Louis, CB Prince Amukamara, and TE Trey Burton.

Players added

The Bears added DE Robert Quinn, TE Jimmy Graham, and TE Demetrius Harris. They will be joined by rookie TE Cole Kmet, CB Jaylon Johnson, DE Trevis Gipson, WR Darnell Mooney, and CB Kindle Vildor.

2020 outlook

It’s pretty clear that the Bears have focused on emphasizing tight ends in their offense in 2020. That’s a confusing strategy for an offense that ranked just 29th in the NFL in total yards. While the offense does boast WR Alten Robinson (1,147 yds and 7 TDs) and RB David Montgomery, the team failed to add a WR until round 5, never drafted running back help, and grabbed two interior offensive linemen in round seven to help the beleaguered interior.  The offense will struggle in 2020 as the Bears try to make all the new pieces work together.
