LA Rams: 5 CB prospects to replace Jalen Ramsey in 2021
By Larry Brake
LA Rams could replace Jalen Ramsey with Israel Mukuamu
Israel Mukuamu is the type of cornerback that the LA Rams need in order to compete against the big physical receivers. Mukuamu plays college football at South Carolina. He is a big physical corner.
Mukuamu stands 6-feet-4 weighing 204 pounds. He has intercepted 5 passes and made 76 total tackles in his collegiate career. The 2020 season will be his junior season. You can expect him to enter the NFL Draft after the 2020 season.
His stock really rose after his 2019 performance against Georgia. Greg Hadley of thestate.com wrote the following in October 2019:
"Mukuamu had three interceptions in a game for the first time at any level of football. He was rewarded Sunday by being named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week."
Many ways to play him
The options are numerous in how the Rams could utilize Mukuamu in the defensive scheme. He is definitely bigger than Ramsey. He is more physical than Ramsey but not as speedy. Ramsey prides himself on being able to get into the head of opposing receivers. His past run-ins are well documented. Just ask A.J. Green or Steve Smith.
Mukuamu would be a nice replacement for Ramsey, especially a less expensive contract for a few seasons. He will have to adjust to the speed of the NFL game. The potential is there for the taking.
