Technology boost
The ability to watch football is a far cry from huddling around a radio listening to the audio-only broadcast of so many years ago. So why have we remained content with a standard televised broadcast? What I mean is, we no longer have the opportunity to look up at the scoreboard, survey the stadium for the next WAVE, and limit ourselves to sitting in our comfy chairs, loveseats, and sofas while well-meaning producers mix and match camera angles to give us their version of the best game experience.
While they do a fine job, and can certainly zoom in on the close angles, we quickly acclimate ourselves out of the stadium mode and into the televised mode rather quickly. So how can you avoid that? For starters, why not mix it up a bit? View the picture, but instead, mute the television and turn on the LA Rams radio sound broadcast. You can find them on Los Angeles Rams’ flagship radio stations are KSPN (710 AM) and KCBS-FM (93.1 FM) in the Los Angeles market. You can also get the broadcast on other stations around California, including 50,000 watts AM 1090 XEPRS in Tijuana-San Diego (“The Mighty 1090”).
Tech it up!
Once you have accomplished that, you have other technology options. Place the audio away from the video images. I prefer to turn on the radio behind me, which gives the entire experience a three-dimensional and very surreal feel to it. Why is that important? Well, for starters, if you’ve followed the stay-at-home protocol, you’ve had your fill of watching television, in the same manner, months ago. So what can you change up? Well for starters, you can enlist any number of virtual software available to place your image in the living rooms of your LA Rams fans friends, and their images in your living room. Many versions are free applications available for a smartphone, laptop, or notepad.
Then, there is a matter of that scoreboard. I enjoy loading one of the NFL gameday scoreboards on my laptop for the game. Doing so allows me to track the game statistics, follow other game scores, but also afford myself an unrestricted view of the Rams on the big screen. To do so, any number of free fantasy football leagues sponsored by national sports media offers the service. You can subscribe to your league via Yahoo, CBS, ESPN or more to name a few. Then, on game day, simply set up your laptop within reach, log into your fantasy football game day scoreboard, and enjoy your own mini-Occulus!
