Latest reports confirming that the LA Rams will play football this year
Well played, NFL and NFLPA, well played. Whether intentional or not, the latest drama of “will they or won’t they?” has kept the LA Rams, and all NFL fans worldwide, on the edge of our seats. Per the latest twitter updates from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, NFL teams can pare down their roster to 80 from now and into the future. Rosters must be no more than 80 players by August 16, 2020. Additionally, groups can be no larger than 80 persons in the facility at a time. One group will include rookies and second-year players, while the other will consist of veterans.
The major hold up was player pay if the season is halted. Both sides have agreed to the conditions of no play means no pay. What that means is that if the NFL can only squeeze in 10 games, players will only be paid for 10 games worth of play. That offset was a huge matter because the NFL owners wanted financial protections from a pandemic-shortened season.
Get out the vote!
Of course, the NFL and NFLPA executive committee approval are 2/3rds of the way there. The players must vote to play. Based on social media statements to this moment, that should happen.
All that remains is the voting of NFLPA members. That voting is underway at 12:30 pm PT and will extend until 8:59 pm PT today, July 24. If ratified, the 2020 NFL season will happen per modifications. The results of the player voting will likely not be revealed until Sunday, July 26th, at the earliest.
Or sooner. It seems that the voting happened rather quickly.
It may not be the most polished, refined, or perfected NFL season in the history of football. But it appears that the 2020 NFL season will be a go. I repeat, LA Rams, the 2020 NFL season appears to be a go.
