Will the real System quarterback stand up?

So many refer to the Rams quarterback Jared Goff as a “system quarterback”. The implication is that the Rams offense is so well-planned, anyone who can pass the ball would succeed here. Of this group, Jared Goff is 2-2 in the NFL Playoffs. Carson Wentz is 0-1 in the NFL Playoffs. Dak Prescott is 1-2 in the NFL Playoffs. And of the group, the offensive line rankings for the three teams for the past four seasons? Dallas, then Philadelphia, then the LA Rams.

As far as the running game for each quarterback over the past four seasons? The Dallas Cowboys, then LA Rams, then Philadelphia Eagles. As far as receivers over the past four seasons? The Dallas Cowboys, then LA Rams, then Philadelphia Eagles, in that order. Imagine if either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff had four seasons of a top-rated offensive line and running game?

Dak advantaged

Somehow, the success of the Dallas Cowboys has been awarded to quarterback Dak Prescott, despite such a great supporting cast.  The success of the Philadelphia Eagles has been awarded to quarterback Carson Wentz, despite his benefitting from an outstanding offensive line.  Meanwhile the success of the LA Rams, despite the supporting cast flaws over the past four years, has been awarded to LA Rams head coach Sean McVay.

If Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, or Dak Prescott all had the benefits of the same Cowboys offensive line, Ezekiel Elliot at running back, and the same receivers, would the perception of the quarterbacks remain the same?  Likely yes. Bias in the NFL runs to favor the Cowboys, then east coast teams, then the rest of the NFL. That’s the system, folks. So what can the LA Rams do to change Goff’s lack of respect in the NFL?  Who cares? Although winning cures everything in the NFL. So how can the Rams ensure that Goff is more successful in 2020?
