Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings, like so many teams, invested heavily in a quarterback but failed to invest in the offensive line capable of protecting him. While the LA Rams offensive line did not excel at run blocking, the team allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL in 2019. That is something the Vikings would benefit from.

While the Rams started nine different players on the offensive line in 2019, the team will likely not be able to carry all of those players on their 53-man roster this year. One of those players unlikely to remain on the roster this season is center Brian Allen. While he started the season at center for the Rams, his injury ended his season.  The Rams have since gone with veteran Austin Blythe at the center, putting Allen at risk of not making the roster this year.

Let’s make a deal!

The Vikings have invested a great deal into their quarterback, and by doing so, have every right to invest in players to protect him.  While Allen may not compete for a starting role with the team, he’s certainly earned a spot in the depth chart and has plenty of reasons to be considered for a future starting role with the Vikings next season. In the meantime, he is a solid insurance policy for any of the Vikings interior offensive line positions.

Much like the Patriots, the Vikings could part with a conditional third-round pick to secure a solid offensive lineman who knows the NFL and has starting experience at the offensive line when he arrives.  While the Vikings could sign a free agent, Allen comes at an affordable cost and is young enough to improve with each week throughout the season.
