The LA Rams portion of HBO Hard Knocks: LA Episode 2 featured QB Jared Goff’s greatness in the early days at training camp
Last night, HBO Hard Knocks: LA weekly episode featured the LA Rams (and Chargers) increasing the workload upon players. The Rams worked hard to smooth out the kinks. After all, Rams head coach Sean McVay demands perfection. Across the NFL, the physicality of training camp is ramping up as football season grows ever closer.
From the behind the scenes glimpses of training camp in last night’s episode, we saw LA Rams veteran quarterback Jared Goff’s confidence in himself on full display. Coach McVay pointed out how he was liking “Goff’s decisiveness.”
Goff is good in a clean pocket
Jared Goff has always had that cool California Kid poise since he was drafted. The confidence from making the right decisions without any mental errors in camp shows he’s ready to take that next step. He exhibited confidence in the play before it happens, and made good decisions at key moments. These are Goff’s trademarks in the Rams’ offense.
While Goff struggled last year in turnovers, both fumbles, and interceptions, he is showing at training camp that last season was last season and he is ready to bounce back. Of course, the pocket is clean and he needn’t worry about getting sacked. But Goff seems more determined this season. After all there’s nothing more dangerous in the NFL than a player, not named Aaron Donald, with a chip on their shoulder. That goes double for a discounted quarterback.
Comeback Player of the Year?
Goff is truly ready for a bounce-back season. He’s worked hard this offseason to improve his footwork and his throwing velocity from various stances. With the run game last season struggling behind a battered offensive line, Goff had to throw the ball more to move the chains. Defenses knew that the running game was ineffective, so it was inevitable mistakes would occur with the increase of responsibility. Both the team and the player worked on solving the issue, so expect him to smooth out those mistakes.
Either I’m right and this will lead to Goff having one of his best seasons or Hard Knocks has a phenomenal editing team to make fans believe in something that isn’t there. But we have seen him do it before so as fans we have a quarterback we can believe in for the 2020 season.
