Scenario III- Trade DT Marquise Copeland to the Jaguars to restore the Rams’ fourth-round pick.

The LA Rams have been a safe haven for unhappy Jacksonville Jaguars players in the past. But now, the Jaguars need roster depth.  Their latest news? DT Rodney Gunter is stepping away from the game due to medical reasons.  He has settled with the Jaguars as part of their waiver negotiations. The Jaguars are already embroiled with NFL Rumors that they are close to trading Yannick Ngakoue for a second-round pick.

The Jaguars are currently sitting on both the first-round and fourth-round draft picks from the LA Rams as the final installment to the trade which sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Rams. While the Rams have not had much experience in recent years drafting in round one, the team is rather adept at finding true value in day three. The pick that hurts the Rams best work is the loss of their fourth-round pick

Jaguars depth is the issue

The Jaguars, like all NFL teams, cannot expect a great deal of help this season from rookies.  And their roster is at a turning point where the team is playing to compete in 2020 but knows that many roster reinforcements are coming to the roster via the next draft.  The Jaguars need players who will compete hard for a roster spot, and for the team’s success. Marquise Copeland is a huge defensive lineman who is at the cusp of an upward trend for his NFL career. The Rams have solid veterans in Aaron Donald, Michael Brockers, and A’Shawn Robinson.  Copeland won’t crack the Rams roster.

Why would the Rams do this? Copeland is a solid talent who doesn’t stand a chance of more than a rotational role with the Rams.  Trading Copeland restores the Rams’ fourth-round pick. That’s why.  Why would the Jaguars do this?  The Jaguars need players today, and with more and more top draft picks, the Jaguars soon run the risk of missing out on lower round talent simply from not enough room to give everyone reps.
