Offense tidbits

The Rams starting line seems to be committed to LT Andrew Whitworth, LG Joseph Noteboom, C Austin Blythe, RG Austin Corbett, RT Rob Havenstein for now.  Bothe Noteboom and Havenstein have been complimented by head coach Sean McVay for their play so far this season. Keep in mind that both Noteboom and Havenstein played very poorly before suffering season-ending injuries last season.

Josh Reynolds is getting work with the starters in three-wide receiver sets. No word yet on his arch-nemesis, namely drops. But he has made a couple of big catches so far.

Rams are really practicing two tight end sets frequently. Starting tight ends are Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett. Quarterback Jared Goff seems very much at ease with two tight end sets.  Goff tossed a strike to Everett in the end zone during red-zone drills.

Van Helsing, er, Jefferson

Van Jefferson is getting work with the second-string and landed a huge touchdown toss from John Wolford in stride.  Jefferson is really turning heads so far. Described as running his routes “on rails”, he is really getting noticed.

Rookie Tremayne Anchrum got some work at left tackle with the starters. He faced both Leonard Floyd and Ogbo Okoronkwo in drills.  Probably the toughest competition he’ll face all season. This was his first-day getting reps at left tackle.

The Rams offense is defaulting to veteran running back Malcolm Brown with the starters to install plays and put in initials reps.

Finally, backup quarterback John Wolford has complete command of the offense. He is a confident and determined player who extends plays with his legs. He also threw back-to-back touchdowns to speedy wide receiver Nsimba Webster.

Rookie running back Cam Akers upped his intensity in Day Two and scored an impressive touchdown on a run to the right against the Rams second-string. The Rams are giving him work with both the one’s and the two’s to cram him for the rapidly approaching season and to catch him up to his teammates.
