LA Rams News: Training camp recap

Special teams tidbits
CFL kicker Austin MacGinnis nailed kicks in day one.
Players who were named as kick returners in training camp include running back Darrell Henderson, running back John Kelly, and defensive back David Long Jr.
CFL Austin MacGinnis and drafted rookie Sam Sloman each converted a pair of field goals near the 40-yard line.
Not much information about Lirim Hajrullahu so far. We do know that he was doing a lot of work on his own, but so far, not much eye-witness accounting for him. The Rams are definitely looking for a strong leg with the best accuracy. While Zuerlein would step onto the field anywhere short of 60 yards, the Rams may sacrifice some distance for incredible field goal accuracy.
To 53, then to special teams
The situation for the Rams special teams is part of the “not to be seen” segments of the training camp streaming segments. That makes sense, as the players who get the lion’s share of special teams work will come from the ranks of the final 53-man roster, and are not starters. That means the true special teams’ rank-and-file will come later. Right now, though, I think the Rams are working hard to get a handle on the kicker role, punt returner, and possibly kick returner.
The Rams still have All-Pro punter Johnny Hekker, and he is a true weapon in defensive contests. That’s about all the bits and tidbits of information out of training camp so far. But keep in mind that this is just the Rams third day of training camp, so players can move up and down the depth chart very quickly. The Rams have Thursday off, so look for the team to pick things back up Friday, August 21st.
