3 most impactful new LA Rams to the roster
By John Vogel
EDGE Jachai Polite (Florida – 2nd Year)
OLB Jachai Polite was a fierce competitor in college, a pass rusher at the University of Florida who dominated in the SEC ranks. Going into the 2019 NFL Draft, Polite was openly discussed as a first-round pick until he bombed his NFL Combine performance. Polite ran a 4.84 forty yard dash, leaped 32 inches vertically, and didn’t perform well in interviews with teams.
Polite still heard his name called in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 68th overall, taken by the New York Jets. He didn’t make it through training camp. After going through the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, Polite ended up on the Rams practice squad through the end of last season and was signed to a reserve/future contract at the end of the year.
It’s Polite to sack the QB
So now here we are – Polite has made his first 53 man roster. He’s built like a tank, 6’3″ and 260 pounds. His upper body strength is impeccable, and he has the ability to control offensive linemen with his game speed. He doesn’t seem to me to be a strong practice player – but he turns his game on when the lights come on. Polite did collect 11 sacks his junior year in college in the SEC.
Honorable Mention – Wide receiver Van Jefferson should make a real impact on this roster as well. He’s shown considerably strong chemistry with quarterback Jared Goff so far, but with the depth at wide receiver currently and the need that the Rams have for a situational defender, Polite gets the slight nod over Jefferson here.
