Linebackers

Linebackers are the middle ground between the defensive line and the secondary. Without a good linebacking group, it can neutralize a defensive front’s ability to stop the run. Linebackers are almost like safeties – clean up what the big uglies can’t get done upfront. Because of that, it’s a group that might not pay as much… Unless, of course, you can rush the passer.

Outside Linebackers: Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears ($23.5M per year); Von Miller, Denver Broncos ($19M per year average)

Khalil Mack and Von Miller are both extraordinary pass rushers and have the ability to impact running attacks as well.

Mack, the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is a brute. In Oakland with the Raiders, he was the heart of their defense, and it caused quite a stir when he was traded to the Chicago Bears. He’s continued his ways there, winning 1st Team All-Pro honors there in 2018.

Miller is a seasoned veteran who has been an impact player in almost all of the Denver Broncos’ biggest games, including their Super Bowl win over the Carolina Panthers. Miller has been a sack machine himself, collecting double-digit sacks in seven of his nine professional seasons. It’s a real shame that Miller will miss the 2020 season with an ankle injury.

Middle Linebacker: Bobby Wagner, Seattle Seahawks ($18M per year average)

Bobby Wagner is hands down the best linebacker in the game of football. Wagners ability to track the play and make the tackle is extraordinary, and he leads the Seahawks defense. How many times as a Rams fan have you been annoyed with Bobby Wagner? Man, it’s been a lot. Wagner has never posted a season in his career with an approximate value under 10 and continues year-in and year-out to produce big numbers.
