LA Rams News: Team 4th most valuable NFL Franchise per Forbes

In LA Rams News: The LA Rams football franchise is reportedly now the NFL’s fourth-most valuable NFL franchise per Forbes magazine. That’s very impressive, considering that the team’s value has been on a rapid rise ever since returning to the Los Angeles metroplex.

That’s a far cry better than just eight years ago when the then St. Louis Rams were ranked 31st. That rise has begun since the team moved to Los Angeles. Right now, the team is ranked behind the Dallas Cowboys, the New England Patriots, and the New York Giants.  The team had leapfrogged the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 and might be on the rise even further with the new stadium and a new determination to win this year.

Finance, Forbes, and football?

The entire list can be found here.  Each year, Forbes magazine publishes the estimated value of each NFL franchise in a ranking from the top (1st) to the bottom (32nd). Forbes magazine is a business/finance monthly publication whose audience is made up of investors, bankers, financiers, and business-related professionals. So how did Forbes get into the football valuation market?

Forbes has built its reputation on objective third party assessments, estimations, and approximations.  The magazine has one of the most expert teams of professionals who can look over the books of a company, celebrity, or franchise and give a reputable opinion on how much that enterprise is worth.  Since Forbes readers also enjoy football, it only made sense to use that expertise to cover new areas of interest to their readers.  The result?

Profits and losses

Forbes looks at football teams, baseball teams, basketball teams, and a wide range of other sports. In the end, it’s just one more trivial factoid about your favorite football team.  Each NFL team benefits from television revenue, and the branding of NFL licensures. But each team has its own set of revenue streams.  And the more a team wins, the more their tickets and merchandise sell.

With 2020 and the regulations to limit COVID-19 spreading impacting teams differently, the Forbes ranking may change next year. But the cost of buying an NFL team is rising rapidly. The fact that the NFL is the most popular sport in the US has its benefits.
