NFL Rumors reporting that LA Rams now turning extension focus upon veteran WR Robert Woods
The LA Rams have several very good receivers. Perhaps one of the most overlooked receivers on the roster, and for that matter, in the entire NFL, is veteran WR Robert Woods. After all, here is a veteran who has accounted for more than 1000 yards for the LA Rams in the past two seasons. He is mister dependable, a player who has started 43 of the 45 LA Rams games since arriving at the team early in 2017.
He is the backbone of the LA Rams passing game. In those 43 games, he has registered 3,239 yards and 13 touchdowns. That is when the Rams have one of the most dominant offensive lines in the NFL. And that is when the Rams have one of the worst-ranked offensive lines in the NFL. The 6-foot-0 195 pound wide receiver shows up each week, expecting to catch the ball for over 100 yards each week.
Next up, Bobby Trees
And now, he is the topic of very hot NFL Rumors. You see, the word is that he is the next player to be in negotiations for a contract extension.
That’s not bad for a player already extended through the 2021 season. And the Rams could actually free up more cap space in the process. Right now, the Rams have Woods under contract until 2021. Per Over the Cap.com, His salary cap impact is scheduled as $8.175 million for 2020 and $10.175 in 2021. Much like the extension to cornerback Jalen Ramsey, the LA Rams can rework the current years in Woods contract to provide him more cash flow while freeing up cap space for the team for 2020 and for 2021. That would allow the Rams the option of extending more players or looking to the NFL Free Agency market at the end of the season.
The LA Rams are systemically signing in players to long term deals. After getting the “must” deals of Jalen Ramsey and Cooper Kupp done, the Rams are now locking in players who are critical to take care of. Robert Woods is one such standout player. Hopefully, the Rams will have news about his extension in the coming days.
