Bold prediction – One of these LA Rams receivers will have a big game. Now for the tough part, who will it be?
The LA Rams put up 275 yards of passing offense against the Dallas Cowboys, a team with a noticeably weaker secondary thanks to the loss of free agent Byron Jones. While wide receiver Robert Woods was good for over 100 yards by pulling in six of eight passes, the remainder of the Rams targets generated only 170 yards by catching 14 of the remaining 23 passes.
Of course, the Philadelphia Eagles have added a very capable cornerback this year in Darious Slay. In the opener, Slay was the primary defender against Washington’s best receiver, second-year Terry McLaurin. McLaurin hauled in five of seven receptions for 61 yards. Not a great day by Washington’s best, but certainly no shutdown either. In fact, Haskins is not good at throwing the ball. Still, he threw for 171 yards and a touchdown.
Rams have three Terry McLaurin‘s
The LA Rams may not scare anyone on offense, but that’s okay. Nobody sees the deadliest assassins coming. In any given game, the Rams will have one receiver go off for over 100 yards. The others will do okay, somewhere in the 50-70 yards range. And by the end of the season, the Rams have two receivers with more than 1000 yards and a third receiver who is close. That’s when the offensive line is 31st-ranked in the NFL.
Now, the Rams offensive line is much better. Goff is still one of the best passers in the league. And the Eagles have one very good cornerback. But he is just one man after all.
Normally I wouldn’t toot the horn for the Rams so loudly this early in the season. But the disrespect for the Rams continues. So who has a big game this week? Well, there is an argument to be made for seven receivers. Seven different players, who can go for over 100 yards in this game? Yes. The LA Rams offense is all juiced up once more. So who are these passing threats? Here they are:
