LA Rams Injury update: Brown, Akers, Williams, and Noteboom hurt, but will be back

The LA Rams emerged with a victory in their first road game. But the game took its toll on the Rams. The LA Rams lost rookie running back Cam Akers in the first quarter. Later in the game, the offensive left guard Joseph Noteboom came up hobbling.  Two starters, two injuries. The Rams overcame their absence, but as soon as the game concluded, everyone wanted to know what

After 2019, the Rams are permitted to take as many gasps for air and shocked faces whenever a player is involved in any sort of injury. The team endured 20 injuries to a 53 man roster last year. And some players, like left offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, played hurt. How do I know? He had corrective surgery immediately following the season.

Injury Update Summary

So who is out now and for how long?  Well, let’s start with the familiar ones.  We know that inside linebacker Travin Howard is out this season and that offensive tackle Chandler Brewer has opted out.  Before week two, veteran nose tackle A’Shawn Robinson is on Injured Reserve for a minimum of six weeks, and rookie outside linebacker Terrell Lewis Is on Injured Reserve for a minimum of three weeks. Now that you are all caught up, let’s talk about the latest rounds of bumps and bruises for the team.

Per therams.com’s Stu Jackson, the Rams updated the injury status of four players.  The first injury was that of left offensive guard Joseph Noteboom. Per the report, Noteboom suffered a grade 2 calf strain.  Per BostonSportsMedicine.com, this type of injury indicates partial tearing of muscle tissue and can require three to six weeks of rest and recovery before resuming full activity. Due to the time required to heal, the team is considering pacing him on the injured reserve list. Noteboom will not be active for the Buffalo Bills game. In his place, the Rams will likely start last year’s starting left guard David Edwards.

Sounds more painful than debilitating

Rookie running back Cam Akers has the next “most severe” injury. He is suffering from separated rib cartilage. That is a day-by-day injury and will heal on its own given proper rest and care. The most concerning symptoms are pain and tenderness, which can be triggered by coughing, laughing, or even deep breathing. Treating rib injuries starts with medication to relieve pain, then ice packs to reduce swelling for tenderness.  While the team list Akers day to day, Tufts Medical center website recovery can take three to four weeks to heal.

That brings us to the final two injured players.  Per Greg Beachum, veteran running back Malcolm Brown reset a broken little finger and should be okay to go this week against the Buffalo Bills.  Similarly, per Stu Jackson, cornerback Darious Williams suffered a flare-up of Achilles tendonitis. He will have an opportunity to rest this week but should be a full go when the Rams take on the Bills this Sunday.

Next. Micah Kiser seems to have solved LA Rams linebacker question. dark

The Rams take another trip to the East Coast this week as the Rams face AFC East leader Buffalo Bills, the second of five such long-distance excursions. For now, it looks as though the Rams will face the Bills without NT Robinson, OLB Lewis, LG Noteboom, and RB Akers.  We will update the Rams gameday player status before the game. Stay tuned!
