The LA Rams offense is purring, but RBs are suffering from wear and tear. The Rams need to give 3 RBs from free agency tryouts

The LA Rams are in a bit of a tight spot. They don’t know what they don’t have until they need it. Simultaneously, they don’t know what they have until they lose it. What does that mean? It means that the LA Rams have rediscovered an ability to run with the ball. Despite no new faces on the offensive line, and despite only drafting rookie running back Cam Akers to pick up the slack from veteran running back Todd Gurley.

The Rams have done so thanks to the fresh legs of veterans Malcolm Brown, Darrell Henderson, and rookie Cam Akers.  A year ago, the Rams running backs averaged an unimpressive 3.7 yards-per-carry. This year, the offense is averaging a far more impressive 4.4 yards-per-carry. That’s an outstanding improvement, particularly so in light of the fact that the Rams are running behind the same offensive line as a year ago.

Wear and tear running high

But that production is coming at a price.  The wear and tear on the Rams rushers is already noticeable after two games. We know that Darrell Henderson is nearly fully healed from a hamstring injury.  Malcolm Brown suffered a broken pinky finger, but he should be ready to go this week. And rookie Cam Akers suffered a rib injury and is on a day-by-day status. He is reported now as out for the Buffalo Bills game.

Two games and the running back by committee approach has been very effective but has dinged up all three running backs.  That’s a fair rapid pace of burning through players, isn’t it?. So it behooves the Rams to start to bring in running backs for tryouts. Not to sign someone on the spot. But to get a good idea of who has the type of skillsets that the Rams could need on a moment’s notice.  Here are three who should be invited in for a look-see:
