LA Rams DE Morgan Fox quietly making a name for himself
By Bret Stuter
Is it time to get LA Rams defensive end, Morgan Fox, more snaps? Well, he is quietly making a name for himself
As the LA Rams have been quietly playing the role of spoiler for the teams from the NFC East. In the next two weeks, the Rams get to finish the job, now hosting the New York Giants this week before traveling to the east coast one more time to face the Washington Football team. The next two games are understandably projected wins for the Rams. Projections can be wrong.
That’s why the Rams must look inwards. The Rams need to get some things turned up on the offense and defense. Nothing is broken, mind you. The team simply needs to reorder the way the team is making use of some of the team’s players.
Every defender plays their role
The Rams have been working hard to get some help for defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Of course, Donald is on a completely different level of play altogether. But the Rams continue to search for players who can help take some of the pressure off, and with each game, that hope diminishes ever so slightly. But here is something to turn that around.
The LA Rams run a very disciplined defense. While it may seem like a free for all, the team counts on some players to gobble up blockers and others to pressure the quarterback. It was obvious in game one as the Rams used Donald to plow the road to free up Floyd and other’s path to the quarterback.
More snaps Morgan Fox
After three weeks, the Rams need to give Fox more snaps. So far he has seen work on 75 of 205 defensive snaps. Even at just over a third of the snaps, he is one of the few players who has a quarterback sack this year. Why the sudden interest in getting Fox snaps? He is getting better.at chasing down quarterbacks.
Right now, the Rams need help in that area.
In the Bills game, the Rams were able to get to a “pocket”, but the elusiveness of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen ensured that they arrived to the wrong pocket. The Rams pass rushers. were getting somewhere, but they simply failed to get to the place they needed to. Even when triple-teamed, Aaron Donald will eventually breakthrough. Unfortunately, the Bills were well prepared and moved the pocket to the spot the Rams stunted away from. The Rams discovered in their third week that discipline and communication are vital to success. And they are also finding a solid defender in their defensive end, Morgan Fox. He’s quietly making a case for a larger role going forward.
