8 edge rushes from free agency the LA Rams should invite for tryouts
By Bret Stuter
LB Wake
Next up is linebacker Cameron Wake who last played for the Tennessee Titans. He is worth an invitation, as he will likely be getting some interest from the Seattle Seahawks as well. Even at the ripe old age of 38, Wake still can produce on the football field. Need proof? He’s been a consistent threat to the quarterback in each of the past four seasons.
Cameron Wake is not someone who goes in on running downs. But in obvious passing downs, he can be devastatingly effective. Need proof? Here are his last four seasons, summarized.
Year Pass rushing attempts Pressure rate Sacks
2016 353 14% 11
2017 360 15% 10.5
2018 271 17% 6
2019 160 14% 2.5
Now, imagine him lining up on defense with Aaron Donald?
Pass rush specialist
The Rams need to get better pressure on the opposing quarterback, and Cameron Wake is an ideal specialist for that role. The added bonus with a player with as much experience as Cameron Wake is that when he is not delivering on the football field, he is mentoring younger players on the practice field. He’s very experienced.
In 11 NFL seasons, he has amassed over 100 quarterback sacks. And over the course of his career, he has played both defensive end and outside linebacker. He is a quality player, and his leadership would be a welcomed addition to the Rams with Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald. Oh, and that pressure on the quarterback would be a very welcome addition. Bring him in for a tryout!
