CB Hill

CB Troy Hill struggled against a high octane passing attack of the Buffalo Bills. But to be fair, he didn’t count on losing safety Jordan Fuller to injury after eight plays, and the challenges encountered when Taylor Rapp stepped onto the football field.  After all, this secondary has never played as a unit before, and the team needs a lot of communication to function.

Rapp is a wildcard variable in this defense. He was the rookie with mental lapses who allowed huge plays to be made in 2019. And with almost no training camp and rookie Jordan Fuller getting the starts so far, it appears that he is still missing coverage hand-offs in the new defensive scheme.  Hill faced a wide assortment of quality slot receivers against Buffalo.  He will be more in his comfort zone this week

Why this game?

Hill is not a substandard defensive back who stumbles into one good game. Rather, he is a veteran cornerback who shrugs off the past week and focuses on the next week. The fact that he struggled against the Bills receivers gives him even more reason to focus upon the Giants receivers. With Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams on the outside, Hill will likely cover C.J. Board or Evan Engram, both assignments he should do well against.

Hill will have games where he struggles. But he bounces back nicely when that happens. With Williams on the outside, Hill will get better in the slot each week. In fact, he could get his second interception of the season as Jones tries to be a bit too aggressive in this one.
