LA Rams quarterback Jared Goff showcases quality over quantity

LA Rams quarterback, Jared Goff, has elevated his game to the next level after a forgettable 2019 season. His quality of play has improved as he currently holds a quarterback rating of 108.1 and has a 72.1 completion percentage, the highest of his career thus far.

According to Pro Football Focus, Goff is the 4th highest graded quarterback so far this season, only trailing Seattle Seahawks’ QB Russell Wilson, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, and Tampa Bay QB Tom Brady. If that’s not considered great company, with all three being Super Bowl MVP’s, I honestly don’t know what would be.

Only been four games, but

While that may be a valid point, let’s dig into this conversation deeper by looking back at last season’s first four games and comparing that against this year’s similar time frame and see how much Goff has grown over the past year.

Obviously, the biggest difference is that Goff has become a much more efficient passer, by attempting fewer passes and getting similar results. I expect that Goff will have better statistical days, but the most important thing is that he has found a way to limit turnovers this season.

Another surprising stat is the fact that he had four games all of last year in which his quarterback rating was over 100. He had already done that in three straight games heading his team’s tilt with The Washington Football Team in week 5.

Team Success

Now that Goff has showcased his efficiency, the rest of the offense is beginning to look much better than last year. Running backs Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown have been the main benefactors of the successful passing game and positive game scripts. They have split carries almost evenly and have combined for over 400 rushing yards and both average at least four yards-per-carry.

Through the first four games of both seasons, The Rams hold a record of 3-1, but I am sure that the team and fans much rather have this elevated version of Goff, who is showcasing quality over quantity.
