Expect LA Rams OLB Terrell Lewis to make most of the few LA Rams defensive snaps he will get.
The LA Rams have a new edge rusher to face Washington. His hame is Terrell Lewis. And this is a projection about the return of rookie outside linebacker Terrell Lewis. Some hope for a huge game from the untested rookie, I believe that may wait until week six. Right now, the Rams are rather successful at 3-1. Doing anything too differently disturbs the momentum. Rams won’t do that.
Think of a race where you are running as quickly as you can, In doing so, you cannot suddenly stop to change your shoes. You are already running the race. Such it is with adding Lewis to the Rams rotation.
After all, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (44 percent) was finally elevated to the next most snaps for an edge player behind veteran Leonard Floyd. (87 percent). Rounding out the edge, the Rams have Samsom Ebukam (31%) and Jachai Polite (nine percent). The team even found Justin Hollins on the field for nearly a third of the plays (29 percent).
Snappy patter
So how many snaps will Lewis get today? Despite the impatience of the crowd, I suspect that he will land between 10-15 snaps in today’s game. So what will that mean for his production? Well, for starters, I believe that his lack of video footage prevents a lot of normal preparation by players likely to face him. And then, there is always the Aaron Donald factor of gobbling two or three blockers per play. I will project Lewis to get a quarterback sack, two quarterback pressures, and two tackles for the day.
That may not seem like much, but it’s a helluva game for a rookie’s first NFL start on the edge, particularly with so few defensive snaps. But the Rams have a plan to get Lewis ready and confident before traveling to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. To win there and then, Lewis needs to have a good game here and now.
