LA Rams OLB Terrell Lewis shows up in a big way in the team’s biggest game of the year

The LA Rams know a thing or two about great NFL players and big games. Great NFL players have an uncanny instinct of playing their best when their team needs the most from them.  Somehow, the biggest stages seem to bring out the brightest stars of the NFL. One of the biggest stages in the NFL right now is the football field where the LA Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers.  It is the site where the 2018 NFC Champion faces the 2019 NFC Champion. One team is trying to reclaim the title, while the other team is trying to defend the title.

And standing amidst this clash of titans is a rookie who is new to the NFL, but not new to football competition. Outside linebacker Terrell Lewis was custom-made for big games in the NFL.  And Lewis was hand-picked for this one. After all, the LA Rams wanted a huge bodied edge rusher to not only terrorize quarterbacks but to set the edge on running plays and turn everything in. Lewis is that player.

Familiar 49ers face unrecognizable Rams

The San Francisco 49ers have a very effective but simple offensive formula. Run the ball at the perimeter. Run the ball up the middle. Throw to TE George Kittle. Run the ball. Take a shot downfield with a receiver. Throughout 2019, NFL defenses knew it was coming, but were unable to stop it.

Can the Rams stop the 49es? Well, the Rams loaded up on big outside linebackers by signing free agent OLB Leonard Floyd, and by drafting OLB Terrell Lewis. The Rams further have shuffled their secondary to allow their best defensive back, Jalen Ramsey, to defend the tight end, George Kittle.  And the Rams have a fairly cohesive secondary overall, with coverages disguised so well that even after the game, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo may have difficulty recognizing what the Rams are doing.

Terrell Lewis has a huge say in the outcome

This is Terrell Lewis’s time to shine. You could feel the energy from the moment the LA Rams announced his name at the 84th selection from the 2020 NFL Draft. Since that moment, the Rams had Lewis on the three-week injured reserve to allow his knee to heal up for this game. He even saw his first NFL action last week in a version of ramping up to play full throttle in this one.

Yes, great NFL players have an uncanny instinct of playing their best when their team needs the most from them. And while the book of rookie OLB Terrell Lewis’s career has yet to be written, he knows full well what this game means to the LA Rams. He won’t be silent in this one.  This is a game where players must reach down deep to find out what they are truly made of. Terrell Lewis will not be a great NFL player as a result of this one game. But as a future great NFL player, he will make great plays in this one. The biggest stages seem to bring out the brightest stars of the NFL.
