LA Rams halftime recap: Climbing to the NFC West crown

The NFC West Championship has ended up in the hands of either the LA Rams or the San Francisco 49ers in the past three seasons. Since head coach Sean McVay took over the reins of the Rams, the crown has ended up on the head of the Rams twice, the 49ers once. But 2020 feels like a new beginning, a clean slate.

The game began with an impressive six-play 75-yard drive by the 49ers. San Francisco certainly reworked the offense to requeue struggling quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with quick passes to WR Deebo Samuel, TE George Kittle, and WR Brandon Aiyuk.  When QB Jared Goff took over down by seven, he seemed to be jumpy, missing WR Cooper Kupp on two passes where Kupp was very open.  That opening drive was only the second time the Rams failed to score the first time they had the ball. The other occasion was the loss to the Buffalo Bills

Defense tightens for a moment

The 49ers came back out after the Rams pinned them within their own 15-yard line. The Rams defense held but Goff struggled once more. The Rams pinned the 49ers within their 15-yard line once more. Goff was just one-of-six in the first quarter. Garappolo was eight of nine for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Despite 4-1, the LA Rams remain a work-in-process. dark. Next

On a fourth and two, the Rams blitzed, leaving Darious Williams to cover Kittle with no safety help. Kittle caught it for a touchdown pass.  49rs jumped out to a 14 point lead.  The Rams did march down the field thanks to some great runs by running back Darrell Henderson.  Goff finally got back on track with a touchdown pass to Robert Woods at the back of the endzone.

HALFTIME SCORE

Final. 6. 51. 21. 42

The Rams get the ball to open the second half. This is the LA Rams’ first NFC West test. Look for the Rams to go heavy on two tight-end sets and running the ball much more in the second half.
