LA Rams lose R Terrell Burgess for season, shallow at S and ILB
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams lose another defender for the season. Now the Rams roster appears too thin at S and ILB
The LA Rams need reinforcements on defense. Like it or now, the team gambled with carrying just three inside linebackers and four safeties. With a bit of foresight, the Rams did promote undrafted safety, Juju Hughes. And for what it’s worth, the LA Rams consider OLB Justin Hollins to be both inside and outside linebacker.
That’s not good enough any longer. For starters, the Rams entered the 2020 season with more personnel on offense than defense. So far, the season-ending injuries are hitting the defense. The Rams have lost inside linebacker Travin Howard for the season before the season began. Now, the Rams have lost another key player, rookie defensive back Terrell Burgess. He broke his ankle and will be out for the season as well.
There is still time to make a deal.
NFL Trade Deadline
The NFL trade deadline is November 3, 2020, at 4:00 pm ET. That leaves just 152 hours for the LA Rams to make a trade. Why trade? Well, signing a free agent could impact the formula used to calculated awarding teams NFL Compensatory picks for the 2021 NFL Draft. Right now, the Rams appear to be in need of help at both the safety and the inside linebacker position. But if a cornerback or outside linebacker or pass rusher could be had as well, why not?
The LA Rams defense is performing incredibly well. But the injury attrition rate not only removes talented players from on-field production, but it adds stress to the remaining players to pick up the slack and play more snaps. So the best move now is to make a move now. Just hours remain until the NFL trade deadline. Deal now, or ride this roster the rest of the way, healthy or not.
