The LA Rams had a solid showing in the first half of the season. But 5 players, including Cooper Kupp and Jared Goff, need to turn their season around

The LA Rams offense is not very good right now. Does that make you gasp? Trust me, it hurts to type it more than it hurts to read it. But the offense is not the only area of concern for the LA Rams team.  You see, the  Rams have a bit to work on with all areas of their game.  The offense is of course the easiest to diagnose because the entire game is reflected on the scoreboard.

The Rams have struggled to score of late.  While some contributing factors are the intensely successful defenses they have faced, part of the answer is the misfiring that the team and players have inflicted upon themselves. Balls that touch the hands are now falling harmlessly to the ground. Sure handed tacklers are allowing the ball carrier to slip through their clutches. One mistake can be overcome in a game. A series of mistakes becomes ugly football. That is where the Rams ended the first half of the season.

Caught in the crossroads

The LA Rams are a much better team than many projected before the season began. But this is not the type of team that can overcome turnovers, a major factor in the team’s 5-3 season so far. This is also not a team that can overlook a productive running game to pass the ball twice as often. Misdirecting offensive plays to the passing game will leave points on the board. So far, the Rams offense has done exactly that, left points on the board.

This is not a finger-pointing exercise attempting to assign blame. It’s simply a reality of a 2020 NFL season that is now at the halfway point.  It’s time to put up or shut up. The Rams have been buoyed by an optimistic start to the surprise of rather pessimistic projections. Still, this team has not done much more than carved out the potential for a successful season.  The last half of the season is where the Rams will need to play their best football. So how to go about that? There are five players who have flashed the potential to play at a much higher level. Let’s explore each of them.
