I – Goff needs a big game

There is no quarterback in the NFL that needs a solid game as much as Jared Goff this Sunday. Fans who never had much confidence in the young hurler are back in force. Fans from other teams who have little knowledge of Goff are back to their days of trolling him and equating his play to that of some of the most obscure and unrecognizable names to play quarterback in the NFL.

Jared Goff is more than just ‘some quarterback’. He is currently in fourth-place for the Rams All-Time passing leaders list. He is currently in sixth-place for the Teams All-Time passing touchdowns leaders list.  He needs just two touchdown passes to tie Rams legendary quarterback Kurt Warner. Three touchdowns will catapult him to sole possession of fifth-place.

Goff is a historically great quarterback

While so many are frustrated over Goff’s recent two-interception game, he is the only quarterback in LA Rams history to have thrown for 100 touchdowns or more, and yet have thrown for fewer than 50 interceptions.  In fact, Goff’s career 2.2 percent interception rate is the best since Sam Bradford, and Goff’s 4.8 percent touchdown rate places him into his own category.

And yet, the perception that he is ‘the problem’ persists. That, and the misconception that Goff is enslaved to reading the script from head coach Sean McVay.  Great quarterbacks have off days. Sometimes I wonder if Goff’s early success has somehow raised expectations too high. In any case, Goff is too good not to have a good game in this one. He’s passed that bump-in-the-road and is ready to erupt for over 300 yards and a trio of TDs. If you need a fantasy quarterback, this is the week to consider Jared Goff as your starter.
