I –    The LA Rams are in first place in the NFC West

Pause and enjoy the moment. This is what it feels like to be in first place in the NFC West, and the second-seeded team in the NFC Playoffs.  This moment may not last. It may vanish only to reappear later in the season. But a journey is the experience you find along the way. So take a moment and smile.  The LA Rams have put on a great display so far this season.

For what it’s worth, pieces to this team are starting to fall into place. The Rams defense is stout and has been tested by two of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL in the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Rams defense is an incredible blend of new faces, veterans, and rookies. Most of all, the group becomes more dangerous with each game.

The rest of the story

While this is no longer a team to be carried by the offense, the Rams do enough on offense to win games. After all, it was the Rams offense that came back from a deficit to tie up the game on Monday Night Football before taking the lead twice to win it. Those come back victories are a sign of a good team, and certainly what you expect from great quarterbacks. Although he sputters at times, Rams quarterback Jared Goff is showing those flashes of brilliance more often this season.

The final piece to the team is the special teams. While that remains to be a work in progress, the Rams are showing signs of finally turning things around. New kicker Matt Gay debuted for the Rams by kicking the game-winning field goal with 2:36 remaining in the game. With a dependable kicker, an offense that can move the chains, and a defense that shuts down opponents in the second half, the Rams are in pretty good shape.
