Some LA Rams fans get their wish as team starts QB John Wolford

McVay’s man
Mobility back on the menu, boys! Well, a mobile quarterback is a new feature for this Rams offense. And that is something no defense has had to prepare for from this offense for some time. In fact, in recent weeks, Jared Goff has seemed so timid that he gave himself up long before making a first down in order to avoid contact.
And it was that performance that opened the door to speculation that Goff was banged up long before his thumb was all-but-shattered on the helmet of a Seattle Seahawks’ defender. That resulted in Goff’s absence. But the door is now wide open for John Wolford, and Wolford is the first Sean McVay chosen quarterback for the quarterback role. So what does Wolford have that makes him such an intriguing signal-caller for the Rams?
He can run, throw, evade, and threaten all parts of the field
While the first instant is to presume that placing Wolford onto the field may collapse the playbook for the Rams, in actuality, it may open the entire offense up. After all, Goff was oftentimes a sitting duck in the pocket. That prevented the Rams from threatening the defense deep. But Wolford’s ability to scramble gives the Rams deep game new life.
When he moves out of the pocket, he continues to look downfield, and only brings the ball in when he has no passing option. So the defense will be hard-pressed to defend the back end of the field against his passing arm while keeping enough bodies in the box to tackle a quarterback who can scramble for 20+ yards.
And that’s the gameplan.
