Offensive line

The Rams offensive line played so poorly as a unit, I could not single out any one player to call out. Not one offensive lineman had a good game against the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, the offensive line struggled in many ways. Thankfully, the Rams had a very mobile quarterback John Wolford under center, because the Cardinals’ defensive line had a lot to say at the line of scrimmage. That was rather disappointing because the entire team knew how important the game was, and the fact that the Rams quarterback, John Wolford, was in his first NFL game.

The offensive line did not play well. If not for the mobility of quarterback Wolford, the Rams rushing would have been held to one of its worst performances of the season. That was even more disappointing with the Rams sending in the occasional 12-personnel package. The problem is that the Rams will face stingier defenses in the playoffs.

Plagued with penalties

The LA Rams have a knack for committing transgressions at the worst possible times in a football game. In fact, several losses this season can be traced to the untimely penalty that wiped a positive play completely off the board and changed the entire momentum of the game.  For a fresh example, it was a penalty that removed the go-ahead touchdown off the board against the New York Jets, in a game the Rams would eventually lose.

The Rams latest bout of dumbassery occurred with just over a minute left in the first quarter. After a false start on right tackle Rob Havenstein, the Rams completed a second and 15 from the Cardinals’ 31-yard line to set up a first down and goal from the four. After a pass interference called on the Cardinals, the LA Rams had the ball at first and goal from the one-yard line. First, a false start on wide receiver Van Jefferson placed the ball on the six-yard line. Then, the third false start in the series placed the ball on the 11-yard line.  The Rams were lucky to win after that dismal display.
