3 reasons why the LA Rams may start Wolford in round one vs. Seahawks
By Bret Stuter
Experts believe the LA Rams will start QB Jared Goff in round one of the NFL Playoffs, but here are 3 reasons to lean in John Wolford’s direction.
As soon as the LA Rams were forced to start backup quarterback John Wolford the debate over which quarterback should start when Goff returned was inevitable. Of course, there are so many mitigating factors. How well has Goff healed? How quickly has Wolford learned from his first NFL start, and how much?
The LA Rams are in round one of the NFL playoffs, and there is no more time to learn, to tweak, or to go back to the drawing board and try the following week. If the Rams lose, their next NFL game will be played in months, not next week. And so, any decision over who is under center and throwing the ball will impact the entire team.
Goff proven and predictable
Of course, just as any team would claim in the playoffs, the starting quarterback that got the Rams here is deserving of the start if he is ready. But with Jared Goff, the Rams will assume the proven quarterback who has won in situations just like this before. But there Rams will also take on the predictive qualities of the offense too.
Goff excels at the short and mid-range passing game. But he is immobile, he is playing with a surgically repaired passing thumb, and he is vulnerable to a heavy pass rush. Of course, the Rams will welcome back left tackle Andrew Whitworth for the playoffs, so that could help. All told, Jared Goff would be starting if he is 100 percent. But I fear he is not there yet. And as such, one more week of healing would be wise. So what does Wolford have going for him in his potentially second start?
