Wolford opens up the entire offensive playbook

The LA Rams offense sputtered a bit against the Arizona Cardinals. But that was not all on quarterback John Wolford. In fact, he really did not get much help from the offense in his debut. Receivers dropped catchable balls. The offensive line self destructed when the Rams got the ball into the red zone. And even rookie running back Cam Akers fumbled the ball at the Arizona Cardinals one yard line.

So many claim that starting quarterback Jared Goff is a system quarterback. Is he really? If he was, then the answer would surely be to start Wolford, because John Wolford opens up the entire offensive playbook. It was Wolford who lined up as the only player in the backfield. It was Wolford who lined up with two tight ends. In either cause, he knew which players were his keys, and he threw the ball in the right location.

Odd-ibles

The Rams offense was unable to run with the ball effectively against the Arizona Cardinals. It seems that head coach Sean McVay will need to make due with a focus upon the passing game. Having said that, the Rams offense has built the roster with a strong running game to support the receivers getting seperation.

Wolford adds that rushing offense component himself, and in doing so, freezes the defensive backs in their tracks.  With Wolford’s ability to scramble for a first down, even when Rams are in a third and long-yardage situation, the Rams have their optimal offense. As long as defenders must defend both the run and the pass, the advantage goes to the Rams. And Wolford threatens defenses with both.
