Behind Enemy Lines – Part I

Ramblin Fan: Of course the bad news about left tackle David Bakhtiari’s season-ending injury shocked the NFL. Fortunately for the Packers, their offensive line held up against the Chicago Bears. With LT Billy Turner, LG Elgton Jenkins, C Corey Linsley, RG Lucas Patrick, and RT Rick Wagner, who gives you the most concern in this playoff matchup? Who will perform better than expected?

Dairyland Express: By many metrics, the Packers’ offensive line has been the best unit in the NFL this season, despite dealing with injuries and movement all year. And even without Bakhtiari, this group is plenty good enough to win a Super Bowl.

With that said, the “weak” link — that’s a relative term — along the interior offensive line is Lucas Patrick. Now, don’t get me wrong, he’s been solid this season, playing both guard positions and allowing only three sacks with just 16 pressures. But there have been a few instances this season where he’s been bullied a bit — most recently during the Carolina game — and he’s just not the same level of player as Jenkins or Linsley. I won’t be surprised to see Donald lined up over him in an attempt to take advantage of this matchup.

As far as who will perform better than expected, I’m picking left tackle Billy Turner, because that’s what he’s done all season. Turner — who played right guard in 2019 — has been very good this year at both tackle positions, and his versatility has helped provide stability amid many injuries. I, along with many others, have been pleasantly surprised at just how good he’s been this season.
