Behind Enemy Lines – Part III
Ramblin Fan: There is great concern among Rams fans over the temperature, as the Rams have only won once in six post-season attempts when playing in sub-freezing temperatures. Besides the weather, what other overlooked factors may play a significant role in the outcome of this game?
Dairyland Express: We will have to see what effect it has, but for the first time this season, the Packers will have around 9,000 fans in the stands for Saturday’s game, which will hopefully add to the home-field advantage.
Another factor could be special teams play. Neither team ranks very highly in this area, with Los Angeles ranking 30th in Football Outsiders’ DVOA metric and Green Bay ranking 25th. In playoff football, a special teams blunder could be the difference between a win and a loss.
Ramblin Fan: Due to Jared Goff’s thumb injury and John Wolford’s stinger suffered at the hands of Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, the LA Rams are once again playing very coy over who will get the start against the Packers this weekend. Which quarterback do you fear most, and why?
Dairyland Express: As Matt LaFleur has pointed out this week, these quarterback’s play styles do vary a bit, but if I had my pick, I’d rather see Wolford than Goff. And the big reason is experience.
Goff has his limitations, but he’s been in the McVay system for a few years now, and he did lead this team to a Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Wolford just took his first career NFL snap a few weeks ago.
