The LA Rams never seem to have a day one pick in the NFL Draft any longer. Whenever it appears as though a first-round draft pick appears on the horizon, LA Rams General Manager Les Snead seems to find a blockbuster trade to spend it on a veteran player.  And that was most certainly the case for the LA Rams 2021 NFL Draft.

Each year, all 32 teams are awarded one pick for each round in the NFL Draft. Currently, the Draft is made up of seven rounds, which leads to seven picks for each team. The order of selection in the draft is based on the reverse order of how teams finished in the previous season. For the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who finished the season in the last place at 1-15, will make the first selection.

The LA Rams made two trades that impacted their 2021 NFL Draft. Of course, the first trade was with the Jacksonville Jaguars for DB Jalen Ramsey. How did that trade affect their 2021 NFL Draft?

So the Rams traded away their first-round and fourth-round picks. But the Rams remained active in the trade market and agreed with the Cleveland Browns to exchange a fifth-round pick in 2021 for interior offensive lineman Austin Corbett.  What does that look like?

So the Rams enter the 2021 NFL Draft with just four draft picks before any compensatory picks will be awarded.

2021 NFL Draft

Round 1Traded to Jacksonville Jaguars as part of the package for cornerback Jalen Ramsey

Round 2– The Rams hold their second-round pick.
Round 3 Traded to the Detroit Lions.

Round 4 Traded to Jacksonville Jaguars as part of the package for cornerback Jalen Ramsey

Round 5 – Traded to Cleveland Browns as compensation for IOL Austin Corbett

Round 6 -The Rams hold their sixth-round pick.
Round 7 – The Rams hold their seventh-round pick.
COMPENSATORY PICKS:
Round 3 – The Rams will likely be awarded a third-round compensatory pick for the loss of OLB Dante Fowler Jr (per Over The Cap compensatory pick report)
Round 3 – The Rams will likely be awarded a third-round compensatory pick for the loss of Director of College Scouting Brad Holmes to the Detroit Lions as their new General Manager.

Round 4 – The Rams will likely be awarded a fourth-round compensatory pick for the loss of Cory Littleton to the Las Vegas Raiders (per Over The Cap compensatory pick report)

So the LA Rams will have the following seven picks in the 2021 NFL Draft:

Day one      – No picks
Day two      – One  pick in round two
Three picks in round three
Day three    – One pick in round four
One pick in round six
One pick in round seven

The Rams NFL Draft picks may be near the bottom of the NFL Draft value chart at the moment. But do not underestimate what the LA Rams can do with four picks on day two. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the LA Rams emerged with RB Cam Akers, WR Van Jefferson, OLB Terrell Lewis, and DB Terrell Burgess.

A similar crop of talented prospects can be chosen in the 2021 NFL Draft. The key will be which positions will be address among this year’s rookies. For now? Suffice it to say that the Rams project to get a huge boost to their 2021 NFL Draft class thanks to the value of compensatory picks.
