LA Rams McVay’s ambiguity fuels concerns over Goff’s future
By Bret Stuter
LA Rams HC Sean McVay had an ambiguous answer in the post-game conference leaving the door open to doubt over QB Jared Goff’s future with the team
The LA Rams 2020 NFL season had some good, some bad, and some ugly. The eye of the hurricane this season has been the tempest that surrounds the past, the present, and the future of starting quarterback Jared Goff. As for me? I’ve been on both sides of the fence this season. In some games, it was easy to cheer for Goff. On other games, it was virtually unthinkable to do so.
And that waffling between very good and very bad happened all season, and sometimes several times in the game. Is Goff infected with the same ailment that ruined the season of Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz? Or is this a different matter altogether?
Did the Rams simply overpay for what Goff can deliver? Or has Jared Goff’s early success in competing in the NFL Playoffs in just his third NFL season somehow set the bar too high for everyone who now expects nothing less each season?
It’s been that type of season from Goff, and that type of season for the Rams, and that type of season for the NFL. The weight of so many variables that have been beyond the control of an NFL team, creating both unforeseen advantages and unexpected disadvantages. That lack of control has created a lack of certainty about the future.
