So the question is, just how much tread remains on the tires, err, the legs, of Mark Ingram? There are 7,324 career yards (mostly of the tough between-the-tackles variety) and 62 TDs worth of tread that’s been left on the field and in the record books. We all know the track record of 30-plus-year-old running backs in the NFL is none too good.

He’s now played 10 years in the league, his first eight with the New Orleans Saints and the last two with the Ravens.  In his first year with the Ravens, he toted the rock for 1,265 yards and found end-zone pay dirt (something he has a nose for finding) 15 times. In his second year, he was second on the team in rushing only behind MVP Lamar Jackson. His numbers for last year were significantly curtailed, however – 299 yards on 72 carries (Jackson once again led the team in rushing) while Dobbins and Edwards each posted 700-plus yards seasons.

Trending. As LA Rams cool on Goff, NFL Rumors heat up on Texans’ Watson. light

For this 2009 Heisman trophy winner and proud three-time Pro Bowler, it had to have been difficult to endure splinters instead of grass stains on his uniform. But he never pouted. His well-earned reputation as a clubhouse leader and mentor to his younger teammates would not allow it.

But could he possibly be the replacement for the Rams’ heavy hitter in  Malcolm Brown, who is set to depart in free agency himself? Could the Rams use a powerful, punishing running back such as Ingram for situational plays such as in the red zone, goal-line possessions, or when you need either one foot for the fourth down or a catch out of the backfield on third down?
