The LA Rams lost to the dangerous top-seed Green Bay Packers, but what might have awaited the team had the Rams advanced to the NFC Championship game?

Yes, the LA Rams were shown the door round two of the NFL Playoffs, and now must join the ranks of 28 other NFL teams who must now focus upon next season. Only four teams remain, and they are the Green Bay Packer and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC, and the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC.

Of that group, only the Buccaneers did not win their division. And of that group, both top-seeds did win. So, the value of the bye-week has just gone up significantly this year. Unfortunately, the Rams were unable to land that top-seed. In fact, thanks to some gaffes and misfires this season, the Rams missed what may have been a golden opportunity.

No, this is not a ‘we were robbed’ article. The Rams played hard, overcame adversity, succeeded in many ways that were both unexpected and hopeful for the future. And yet, there is that taste of leaving money on the table.  The 2020 NFL season leaves a sour aftertaste in the mouth. As though reaching in cupboard for something good to eat, and only finding rice cakes.

The Rams gelled on defense, but it took time to get there. The Rams could run the ball in 2020, but it took time to trust the running game enough to lean on it. The Rams had a solid offensive line, but by the time they were playing games that truly mattered, player injuries depleted the unit just enough to be not-good-enough.
