LA Rams: 5 Players to watch for at the upcoming Senior Bowl
2. Edge, PITT Patrick Jones II
Who wouldn’t want another pass rusher from Pittsburgh? Sure worked out for the Rams in the past. Depending on what scheme new Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris plans to run in Los Angeles, Jones could end up being a perfect fit there for them.
Jones excels in both pass rushing and defending against the run. For starters, he has a smart run defending IQ with the ability to get off his blocks. With the injury concerns to edge rusher/ defensive lineman Terrell Lewis and uncertainty of what will happen with outside linebacker Leonard Floyd in free agency, the Rams should look to add another pass rusher in this draft.
When defensive tackle Aaron Donald was injured during the playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, the hope was that he would be able to recover to full strength. Unfortunately, it was obvious in the Green Bay playoff game that did not occur. It seemed as if he possessed no pass rush at all. The Rams need another rusher who can step up for them in case of injury.
Another benefit to Jones is, he’s relentless in his pursuit of the ball and has good closing speed. Depending on what his performance looks like at the senior bowl, his stock could go up but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was still there for the Rams to grab.
