LA Rams: 5 Players to watch for at the upcoming Senior Bowl
5. QB, Texas A&M Kellen Mond
The Rams should be looking at all the quarterbacks in the senior bowl because most will be there in the mid-rounds, which is where the Rams will find most of their draft picks. But Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond is a player worth keeping on the radar.
He is very accurate in the short to intermediate routes and also has a nice touch to his deep ball. And he is a dual-threat quarterback, a skillset that the Rams could be targeting with high interest in the 2021 NFL Draft. In terms of what the Rams may be seeking, Mond seems to check all of the boxes.
The one really impressive thing is his ability to avoid pressure and escape the pocket. He has nice footwork and with a little bit more development he could turn into a good NFL starter. He’s also careful with the football, he doesn’t make many mistakes in turning it over as he only had three interceptions this past year. Another trait that could work well in coach Sean McVay’s offense is Mond’s ability to throw on the run as well all know McVay loves turning to the play-action rollout.
At Texas A&M, Mond hurled 71 touchdowns in his career to just 27 interceptions. And his accuracy improved each season. He has good size at 6-foot-3 and weighing 217-pounds.
While not blessed with blinding speed, his 4.81-second 40-yard-dash time is fast enough to allow him to escape all but the fastest pass rush. Right now, the LA Rams clearly are seeking out mobile quarterbacks. Kellen Mond is currently projected to fall to the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. That would be an ideal spot for the Rams to draft a quarterback if they were so minded. The LA Rams love to draft the top performers in the annual Senior Bowl.
With no 2021 NFL Scouting Combine, there are almost no alternatives to the Senior Bowl in terms of comparing draft prospects. This is the only game in town, literally, of seeing how college seniors match up against one another.
