The burner under the pot of LA Rams‘ quarterback Jared Goff’s future is turned to HIGH, it’s heading up, and the aroma of ‘something’s cooking in the Rams kitchen’ is becoming so strong that practically everyone can smell it now.

Yes, something is cooking in the LA Rams’ kitchen. The only question is… what?

Well, anything that the Rams are planning will run through general manager Les Snead. So when the media had access to Snead on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, they pressed hard to get some answers about the future of the team, and the job security for quarterback Jared Goff.  Frequently, Snead is a bit of a ninja when it comes to the team’s future plans. That was not the case today.

It was a single statement. A moment of the Rams general manager Les Snead giving away the thought process of the Rams front office and coaching staff.  The Rams acknowledge that the current salary cap situation of the team is a bit problematic if the Rams are looking to terminate their relationship. But the moment of crystal clarity was in that statement as well:

"‘Moving on from Jared Goff, the money we’ve invested, that isn’t easy to overcome … (but) anything can be done in a cap-based system’-Les Snead per Greg Becham"

And there it is. A general manager will not state that something can be done to vacate a contractual relationship from the team’s starting quarterback unless he has already: Gotten the green light from the head coach to move on from the quarterback; Alerted the personnel office to whiteboard other quarterback options for the team; And confirmed with legal and accounting departments that it can, in fact, be done.

Why would the Rams general manager make such a statement publicly, knowing how volatile the situation will become as a result? Well, first, it’s a warning shot off the bow of Jared Goff, indicating that the Rams are quite displeased. But this also sends a signal flare to 31 NFL teams, telling them that their operators are standing by to listen to offers and proposals for a trade for the Rams quarterback.

Doubt that?  How about this one.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. Right now, practically every NFL quarterback rumored to be unhappy or on the trade block, invariably they are linked to the LA Rams by well-respected NFL Analysts. The Rams have been linked to Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson, Detroit Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford, and most recently, Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  Of that lot, only Watson is considered mobile.

The Rams are building up to something, perhaps something big. It’s apparent that the Rams, right or wrong, are enamored with a mobile quarterback running the offense right now. We’ve been on the events over the Rams sudden change of tone over Jared Goff from the moment Mcvay stated ‘he’s the quarterback, right now.’

Well, yes. right now, he is. But the narrative, clues, tea leaves, hints, and even recent innuendoes indicate that may not be the case for much longer.
