If there is one thing you can count on, it is the fact that LA Rams GM Les Snead loves that blockbuster trade. Call it Snead’s trademark, but if there is a headliner trade between two NFL teams, you have a 50/50 chance of being correct if you assume one of those teams is the LA Rams. And in a field of perhaps up to half of the NFL teams, the LA Rams claim QB Matthew Stafford
Rams GM Snead is every bit the Royal Canadien Mounted Police because he always gets his man. In order to persuade the Detroit Lions to take on Jared Goff’s massive contract, the Rams sweetened the deal with a 2020 third-round pick and two first-round picks, one in 2022 and the other in 2023. In return? The LA Rams lay claim to the quarterback that they believe will propel them into competing for an NFL Super Bowl.
The Rams’ high-cost of doing business may lighten their purse of draft picks but per Mike Forio of Pro Football Talk, the Rams offload $43.25 million in fully-guaranteed payments over the next two years. That was a huge factor for the Rams, who are feverishly working towards restocking the roster for a three to a four-year window at a Super Bowl Run with Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Robert Woods, and Cooper Kupp.
A soon as the news of the trade hit social media, Twitter exploded, and rightfully so. This is a huge development that not only impacts the LA Rams and Detroit Lions, but any team in the market to trade for or trade away a veteran quarterback. It also carries huge implications for the NFC playoff picture in 2021, and the NFL at large.
Below we gathered some of the instant reactions to the trade of Goff by the Rams. It covers the entire spectrum of love, gratitude, awe, and surprise from the media, fans, and more:

In my opinion -- the #Rams #Lions trade "winner" will be decided in next couple years. If the Rams get to another #SuperBowl -- they accomplished what they wanted. They are trying to make sure NOT to waste these #AaronDonald years. #NFL #LARams #Stafford #Goff

Best wishes to Jared Goff with your new team. As a fan I'm grateful and thankful of your time with the Rams. It's my hope that you will be embraced by the Lions organization and it's fans

Quite the assortment of reactions, eh?
The LA Rams have now successfully crawled out from under the highly compensating contracts they agreed to sign after their Super Bowl appearance. That’s significant because the LA Rams truly believe that their time to win a Super Bowl is now, and the meter is running.
Jared Goff now has the time to grow into an elite quarterback. By landing with the Detroit Lions, he joins a team where the executives are both familiar with and appreciative of the skillsets that he can deliver. He will give the Detroit Lions a fighting chance, while the front office systemically builds a winning team around him. Meanwhile, the LA Rams can focus upon winning games once more without the caveat ‘with Goff at quarterback’. The LA Rams may not be stepping up to the podium on day one of any NFL Draft in the near future, but they haven’t felt the sting of not doing so yet.
