The LA Rams fans are getting a bad reputation. Or rather, a reputation of not being very engaged.  In a new survey published by Adam McCann, a financial writer for wallethub.com. In a recent article entitled 2021’s Best & Worst Cities for Football Fans, he offers a spectrum of categories that resonate with football fans in America. In some categories, the city of Los Angeles did rather well for and among football fans. But in other categories, you are almost left to wonder if anyone in Los Angeles has ever heard of the NFL.

You see, Los Angeles is ranked 29th among the least engaged NFL fans. Coincidentally, that is the identical ranking as 29th-least accessible NFL stadiums.

The survey was conducted by 14 academians, all of whom have a strong East Coast bias.  For ‘engagement’, the survey defined that thusly:

NFL Fan Engagement: Full Weight (~8.82 Points)This metric measures the number of Twitter followers and Facebook “Likes” (on each team’s official accounts) per capita.

So it seems as though residents of Los Angeles are simply not following the @RamsNFL Twitter account, nor the Rams Facebook page.

As for the 29th least accessible NFL stadium?  Well, that was measured this way: This metric was calculated using the following formula: Average Home-Fan Attendance / Stadium Capacity.

Since Los Angeles never allowed fans to attend home games, that likely is how the Rams scored so poorly in this category.

So what do you think? It seems that with teams like the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, small city teams do better. And they likely do, considering that NFL teams do not stay within city borders, and can cover a wide swath of territory, even reaching into other countries.

light. Trending. Divorcing LA Rams and Goff need to focus on future, not past

It’s a nice starting point. But I suspect that LA Rams fans are every bit as ‘engaged’ as those of other NFL teams.
