He said they said

Both sides are simply trying to cauterize their emotions right now. Uncertainty and apprehension, with a bit of loss, are awash for both sides. It’s a temporary experience. And for those who have divorced, or know persons who have divorced, it’s all part of the process of healing.

Ignore it for now. Both sides must do this, must shunt their affection for one another.  And for our part, we will give them plenty of leeway to do so. It’s just the moment compelling both sides to take that attitude.  Comments by either side about the other are not factual. They are the sour grapes that result from a team and a quarterback that once shared a vision of hoisting a Lombardi Trophy together.

Both sides need to focus quickly on their separate futures. There is nothing to win in any he-said-they-said exchange. The course is set. The Rams are now with Stafford. The Lions are now with Goff.  For all intents and purposes, they are now rivals, competing for the same Lombardi Trophy.

They may covet the same goal, but their timelines are far different. The LA Rams have a window that is now and will remain open for three to four seasons. The Detroit Lions will need time to build themselves into a competitor.  How long will that take? Well, they haven’t lost as much as you think on offense.

The Lions will certainly need to help Goff out on offense, and that will mean veterans as well as rookies. Running back Malcolm Brown, wide receiver Josh Reynolds, tight ends Johnny Mundt and Gerald Everett, and center Austin Blythe are all projected to test the 2021 NFL Free Agency market, and they could help get Goff a jumpstart to success right out of the gates. As for the Rams? They’ll need to revisit refitting a deep threat into their offense once more.

The 2021 NFL Season is almost upon us.
