Of course, the available coaches in the NFL take one of two career paths. They are either promoted, in which case they are no longer interested in the opportunity to be a positional coach and that comes with its own set of challenges as the candidate has reasons why they were overlooked for promotion. To uncover the best of the young rising stars among coaching ranks, we turned to 247Sports.com writer Chris Hummer, whose College Football Rising Stars article was just the ticket for a who’s who of college football coaches.
To avoid the endless Catch-22 cycle, the Rams would be wise to consider these four college coaches. There are benefits to doing so. First off, they are tapping into a younger coaching group and one that is still on the rise by earning a solid reputation. Second of all, linebacker coaches from the college ranks have a solid connection to college football players. In the absence of the NFL Scouting combine, that is huge.
Thirdly, they are new to the NFL. That means they will infuse new training techniques, bring a new perspective, connect with players quickly and more effectively. It ensures that the Rams will expand their circle, push the boundaries, and work hard to a broad and more complete training camp.
The first up in our list is 29-year-old Linebackers Coach Siriki Diabate, out of Middle Tennessee State University. He began coaching directly out of college and had interned at both the Buffalo Bills as well as the Dallas Cowboys. While fairly young and new to the game, he’s already coached up linebackers Darius Harris, Khalil Brooks, and DQ Thomas into All-Conference players. He was a defensive analyst for Notre Dame and coached defensive backs at Colgate. He played the position at Syracuse University from 2011 through 2013, and he has been MTSU’s linebackers coach since 2017.
