The LA Rams may lose key defensive backs to NFL Free Agency but have a wave of young players who will give a very bright future

The LA Rams focused two draft picks from the 2020 NFL Draft upon their secondary, and may very well be shopping once more for defensive backs in the 2021 NFL Draft. After all, the Rams face losing restricted free agent star defensive back Darious Williams, veteran defensive back Troy Hill, and veteran defensive back John Johnson III to free agency this year.

While the Rams will certainly be interested in retaining some or all of these players, there is a healthy core of players on the field now, and others are waiting to step up. So the question forms in everyone’s mind, whether spoken or unspoken, wondering what will the Rams do this offseason to address the secondary?

Let’s face it, of all the Rams roster challenges heading into 2021, the secondary is the focal point of much of the concern. After all, any five-player unit projected to lose 60 percent of the roster to free agency tends to create concerns. That’s where the Rams defense finds itself late in the 2020 NFL season. So far, what do we know about the Rams secondary?

Well, for starters, we know that the Rams have a strong core. The team has locked in All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey for the foreseeable future. And we know that the team has two talented safeties in Jordan Fuller and Taylor Rapp to cover the backside of the defense as well.  The team has the coveted return of Terrell Burgess, who began to flash brilliantly in a hybrid cornerback/safety role for the team.
