We know that the LA Rams have to refill 16 spots, but most of those outbound veterans were crucial to the success of 2020. Will that persuade the Rams to commit to re-signing veterans due to hit the free agency market? If yes, then who? If no, then how will the Rams ‘win now’?

Jay: I agree with you 100 percent, Bret, that there are two absolutely must re-sign free agents for the Rams – safety Josh Johnson III and cornerback Darious Williams.

The Rams’ secondary compliments the defensive line nicely, and they need to keep that chemistry in place. I watched Williams absolutely blanket-smother Seattle’s wide receiver Tyler Lockett and hold him in check for an entire game last year, enabling the team to double-up on covering the speedy and dangerous DK Metcalf. (who gets my vote for one of the steals of last year’s draft).

If the Rams can somehow manage the salary-cap minutia to lock in a versatile safety like Josh Johnson III, they should do it. He performed in the top tier amongst NFL safeties at his position and still has a lot of upside.

His versatility comes into play, as he’s capable of splitting between free safety and box alignments. I’m hoping his run defense improves next year, part of that upside I see for him.
