When you look at the LA Rams roster, one of the things that seem to jump off the page is how quarterback John Wolford does not seem to fit the mold of the Rams’ disciplined offense.  Well, he leads a trio of mobile quarterbacks now on the Rams offseason roster. Is that by design? Or have the LA Rams determined that they want to move towards mobility at the quarterback position going forward?

If that is the case, then why exchange former quarterback Jared Goff for his doppelganger, Matthew Stafford? Goff was fairly immobile. Now? Stafford is fairly immobile too.

He has been described by General Manager Les Snead as a ‘change of pace’ quarterback.  That’s not the standard, is it? I mean, a quarterback runs the offense at a certain cadence, a rhythm. It’s not like a running back by committee approach, where swapping out rushers changes the tempo and cadence of the offense, throwing the defense’s rhythm off, is it?

Or is it?

Like it or not, LA Rams head coach Sean McVay employs similar offensive strategies as San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. Sports Illustrated’s Greg Bishop wrote an excellent article about the Washington Football Team coaching staff that included Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Matt LeFleur.

The relevance of that article is the revelation of the ‘Quarterback collective’. It was a group formed during the time of Mike Shanahan’s career that gathered the minds of some of the best offensive strategist in the NFL to develop the role of the quarterback.

And they may still be developing that role. So how does Wolford enter the picture?
